Uganda’s Head Coach Cheats Death Ahead Of Cecafa Challenge

Uganda Cranes' preparations for their CECAFA Challenge Cup title defence almost suffered a big set-back on Tuesday night when team coach Bobby Williamson cheated death after crashing his Corolla into a heavy truck.

"I am a lucky man. I don't know how I survived," Williamson was quoted as saying in the New Vision.

The Scot walked away with a swollen neck and grazing to his knees from the accident that left his car a total wreck.

Despite being able to conduct training sessions at Namboole yesterday, Williamson was clearly still shaken and told everyone how lucky he was to escape.

"I don't know why this truck guy decided to turn off his lights. I hardly noticed it," he said.

"The only option I had was try to overtake it but couldn't because of a speeding car on the next lane. If the government does not order old vehicles off the road, there will be more fatal accidents. I am not surprised there have been several on the same road."

The Cranes left by road yesterday for the Kenyan town of Mumias where they open their defence of the title against Tanzania's Taifa Stars on Sunday.
