Genoa president Enrico Preziosi has joined the chorus of voices calling for Serie A matches to be abandoned in the face of racist incidents.
There has been mounting uproar in Italy over incidents involving racist chants emerging from a number of grounds around the peninsula. Particular attention has surrounded Inter star Mario Balotelli who has often been the victim of aggression.
Inter captain Javier Zanetti and several others have already claimed the team will walk off pitches at the first sign of abuse. A number of figures have lobbied for the authorities to clamp down and give referees new powers to stop matches soured by racist behaviour.
"We should allow referees to do this [abandon games]. When these chants happen the game should be stopped," Preziosi told Radio Anchio Lo Sport.
"The federation should tackle this problem and do something about it. We must not punish the clubs, but the fans. The clubs don't always know the fans who turn up to watch games."
