Schalke's Julian Draxler: I can learn a great deal from Raul

The precocious youngster, who burst onto the scene last season for the Royal Blues, says that training alongside players such as the veteran Spaniard greatly aids his development

Schalke youngster Julian Draxler has revealed that his development has been helped along by being able to train with players of the calibre of Spanish veteran Raul.

Draxler, who at just 17-years-old is thought to have a bright future in Gelsenkirchen, made his breakthrough last season with a stunning long-range goal in extra-time against Nurnberg, which put Schalke into the semi-finals of the DFB-Pokal.

"Sometimes I ask myself, where am I really? You see something amazing every day and I can learn an incredible amount from players such as Raul," he told Reviersport.

"That pushes me along in terms of my development and I can have no complaints that he is the focal point and not me."

The midfielder made 15 appearances in the Bundesliga last season and hopes to build upon that, starting with this Saturday's Super Cup clash with bitter rivals Borussia Dortmund in Schalke's own Veltins Arena in Gelsenkirchen.

"I have the self confidence to say that I want to play as many games as is possible. It does not matter which position in midfield I play - be it on the right, in the centre or on the left."
