UEFA president Michel Platini is close to accepting a proposal put forward by a European football committee in Minsk, Belarus, to give more importance to domestic cups.
If the decision is fully accepted by UEFA the French leader will allow winners of domestic cups for the European nations with the six highest rankings to pass directly through to European competition without having to negotiate a qualifying round.
This privilege will come into force at the beginning of the 2012-13 season and will run for a period of at least four years to gauge the effect on team's reactions.
