Espanyol coach Mauricio Pochettino claimed he was “proud” of the display of his players despite their defeat to Real Sociedad in a closely-fought contest in San Sebastian.
Home keeper Claudio Bravo made a number of astonishing saves in order to keep the instrumentalists at bay, including a fantastic late block from Alvaro Vazquez as the match drew to an intense finale.
Speaking to journalists afterwards, the Argentine coach said that despite another loss away from home, he could only be proud of the endeavours of his players.
He said: “For our efforts, the match should have given us another result. Their goalkeeper has been very good in the end. I have no explanation to give to my players as to how we have left this match with nothing.
“We must simply keep playing football and continue to create chances, and if we do that, we will not keep losing matches away from home.”
Of their six matches played this season, the Blanc i Blau have won their three home encounters, but have been defeated in their three matches on the road.
