Hamburg coach Armin Veh sympathised with defeated opponents Kaiserslautern after a much needed 2-1 home win for die Rothosen.
"I can empathise with how my colleague feels. For us it was almost fatal to go behind after two minutes. Our opponents played well and were always dangerous with some very quick players," Veh told Sky after the game.
"Therefore, it was a very difficult game for us. It was quite an important win even if it was somewhat fortunate. It was important that we never gave up."
Hamburg had not won in their previous four games but today's victory lifts them into seventh spot. They will be the next team to try to halt Mainz's seven-game winning streak after the international break.
