Valencia coach Unai Emery declared himself delighted with the victory over Athletic Bilbao at the Mestalla, but added that his team could have made the result more of a foregone conclusion.
Los Che managed to build themselves a two-goal advantage thanks to efforts from Artz Aduriz and Vicente before Igor Gabilondo pulled a goal back deep into injury time.
Speaking to journalists after the encounter, the former Almeria coach insisted that his team had performed to his standard, but were still well short of adeptness in front of goal.
“We wanted to play well and we are happy with the win, but at home we must improve or we will always suffer," he said. "They created a lot of danger, and the key has been our second goal.
“We must rest after this victory, because when we return we can play towards Christmas. I’m happy that we are creating chances.”
Valencia’s next league outing is after the international break is an intrepid trip to face Barcelona at the Camp Nou.
