Athletic Bilbao coach Joaquin Caparros was encouraged by the efforts of his players despite their 1-0 defeat to Valencia at the Mestalla on S aturday evening.
Aritz Aduriz opened the scoring for the home side, before an injury-time clincher from Vicente dispelled any possibility of a los Leones comeback, despite Igor Gabilondo’s injury-time consolation.
Caparros said afterwards that he could not ask any more of his players despite leaving the region without any reward, and he remarked on the match to journalists afterwards.
“It was a game with two very different teams. But although we have pressed very high, that is what we wanted against a team who is leading the championship. However, we left ourselves open on the wings, and even the shots we were hitting struck our own players.”
Los Leones’ next encounter is a difficult clash against Real Zaragoza after the international break.
