Barcelona midfielder Javier Mascherano is eager to eradicate his 'violent player' tag as he tackles the critics.
The former Liverpool midfielder grew a reputation in the Premier League for leaning on the rough and tumble. But he has stuck the boot into the negative voices, defending his style of play.
"I'm not a violent player, most times I was sent off for protesting rather than the actual tackle," he told Catalunya Radio.
Mascherano also recognised the referees in England are more lenient compared to the Liga.
"The officials here are not as permissive as in England," he added.
"Barcelona have a different philosophy to all the clubs that I've played at, I know that the team is playing well and this is the best feeling for a player."
