Real Zaragoza’s promising young midfielder Ander Herrera faces a spell on the sidelines after sustaining a muscle injury during the 2-2 draw with Sporting Gijon on Saturday evening.
A second half double from striker Florent Sinama-Pongolle allowed the Blanquillos a share of the spoils but they still remain anchored at the foot of the Primera Division table, with just three points from their six matches played.
Herrera finished the match but sustained the injury in stoppage time, and will be required to undergo a number of tests in order to establish the period of recuperation in order to fully recover.
Additionally, the Spanish football federation have also been in touch regarding the player’s physical condition, as Herrera had been called into la Roja’s under-21 squad for their upcoming internationals.
Until a full diagnosis is determined, it is unclear whether the 21-year-old will be able to fulfil his duties for his country, and indeed how long the promising youngster is expected to be out of action for.
