Official: Leicester City Confirm Appointment Of Sven-Goran Eriksson As Manager

Leicester City have confirmed the appointment of Sven Goran Eriksson as their new manager, following the departure of Paulo Sousa.

The former England boss attended the Foxes' 3-1 victory over Scunthorpe United yesterday, and signs a two-year contract less than two days after the sacking of Sousa.

Eriksson has had plenty of jobs since he departed the England hot seat, including roles with Manchester City, Mexico, Notts County and the Ivory Coast during the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, but he explained he is still hungry for the job and was drawn to Leicester by their 'ambition'.

"I met the chairman, I met the owners a couple of days ago and they explained to me what they wanted to do," he told reporters.

"I want to manage in the Premier League again, that is why I am here.

"I have signed a contract yesterday for two years, and I hope it will be longer.

"What I saw yesterday, was very good. I liked what I saw. They played very well, they fought with big hearts - well done.

"I think the ambition of the club is fantastic. If they did not have ambition then I would not be interested."

Eriksson will take charge of the team for Leicester's meeting with Hull City - managed by former Foxes boss Nigel Pearson - on October 16.

The Swede did not confirm whether or not his regular assistant Tord Grip would be given a role as part of his backroom staff.

Prior to becoming England coach in 2001, Eriksson had managed the likes of Gothenburg, Benfica, Roma, Fiorentina, Sampdoria and Lazio, winning many major national and European trophies along the way.
