Cristiano Ronaldo Arrives Late At Real Madrid Training Session

Real Madrid's €94 million summer signing Cristiano Ronaldo arrived late to Los Merengues' first training session after the international break and received a telling-off from coach Manuel Pellegrini, according to AS.

Ronaldo returned from duty with Portugal with World Cup hopes still in tact after a 1-1 draw away to European Qualifying Group One leaders Denmark and a 1-0 away win in Hungary. Automatic qualification is unlikely at this stage as Portugal trail leaders Denmark by five points with two games remaining but they have a chance of making the play-offs.

Cristiano, international team-mate Pepe and French midfielder Lassana Diarra trained away from the main group at Madrid's training ground.

The Spain contingent of Iker Casillas, Alvaro Arbeloa, Raul Albiol and Xabi Alonso trained as normal, as did Dutch midfielder Rafael Van Der Vaart who made a substitute appearance in the Netherlands 1-0 win over Scotland.

Argentinian midfielder Fernando Gago was the only absentee from training ahead of Saturday's trip to Barcelona to take on Espanyol, as he is not due back from South America until Friday.
