Paris Saint-Germain club captain Claude Makelele has rallied his side prior to their meeting with Ligue 1 leaders Auxerre at the Parc des Princes on Saturday evening, urging his team-mates to rediscover their drive and determination.
Antoine Kombouare’s side have been in rather miserable form of late, winning only one of their last eight league fixtures and sliding meekly to a 1-0 loss in the Clasico against Olympique de Marseille last weekend, a match that Makelele was banned from.
“We’ve lost our fighting spirit,” he lamented to Le Parisien.
“We must quickly get back into a mentality of securing results, finding the desire not to score goals. If we succeed, it will pay-off because there is quality here. Everyone must elevate their mental and physical state, starting with myself.”
Though the former Chelsea and Real Madrid anchor has indicated that the club is not in crisis, ‘Make’ believes that if the sequence of poor results carries on much longer then they may well be.
“My fear is that we do not react before the situation becomes dramatic,” he growled.
“Because when I look at our results, I say, ‘Not us!’
“For now, the only ambition is to become what we were early in the season.”
PSG started the campaign brightly, winning three of their opening four matches to climb to second by the close of the summer transfer window.
