Inter Ace Esteban Cambiasso Shrugs Off Barcelona Fiasco

Inter midfielder Esteban Cambiasso is adamant there is only one reason behind last week’s 2-0 Champions League defeat at Barcelona: the beautiful game is not an exact science.

“This is football,” he told the club’s official website after yesterday’s 1-0 home win against Fiorentina in Serie A.

“There is one team that play better football and cause problems for you. That’s what happened to Fiorentina here and we all saw what happened in the Genova derby where we can’t say that Sampdoria did not take to the pitch with the right spirit.

“That’s football: one team attacks and the other weathers the storm. The Camp Nou clash was decisive and now we will have the match with Rubin Kazan.

“We want to play great football at all times, but sometimes you manage it and other times you don’t.”

Despite dominating Fiorentina throughout the encounter, Inter needed a late Diego Milito penalty to see off the Gigliati.

“We were already aware that we deserved this win at half-time,” continued Cambiasso.

“We believed in it and managed to get the victory. But this game with Fiorentina can’t serve to understand something about the Champions League match we will face in ten days.”

Inter will need a victory against Russian champions Rubin next month to book their place in the last 16 of the Champions League, regardless of the outcome of Dynamo Kiev-Barcelona.
