Arsenal Manager Arsene Wenger Angry With Dutch FA Over Robin Van Persie Injury

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has voiced his anger with the Dutch FA after it was revealed that striker Robin van Persie’s ankle injury is much worse than first thought.

The Gunner picked up the injury in an international friendly with Italy, and it was originally feared he would miss six weeks. However, further tests have now revealed the forward it set to sit out the next five months with Van Persie due to undergo surgery in Amsterdam next week.

Speaking about the situation, Wenger insisted the Dutch FA had made mistakes and claimed they must show more respect to clubs.

"I think the Dutch FA minored the injury. We have just found out that it is much worse than what they had first told us,” he told the News of the World.

"If a player gets injured with his country he should be sent back to his club straight away to be checked out by their doctors - not by those of the national team.

"Countries just take your player away, for a friendly, give him back and say 'there you go'. This doesn't happen in any other sport. It's a joke and there must be more respect for us. "

The injury is a massive blow for Arsenal, as Van Persie had been in fine form of late for the Gunners scoring seven times in the Premier League.

The Dutch international also revealed his displeasure at the news and claimed he should have had surgery already.

"If I had known at the time what I know now, I would have been operated on immediately,” said the striker.

“We have all been steered in the wrong direction.”
