Sir Alex Ferguson Reveals Manchester United Star Wayne Rooney Could Be Fit To Face Montenegro With England

Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney is expected to be fit for England's Euro 2012 qualifier against Montenegro on October 12, according to Sir Alex Ferguson.

It was expected that the 24-year-old would face a three-week lay-off, but it would appear now that he may be back sooner than anticipated.

"Wayne trained on Thursday and he wants to play on Saturday," Ferguson told reporters.

"But I have to take the view that this injury has been niggling away for a while and he kept on playing."

The timing of Rooney's return to full training must be perfect, however, as the striker has already been rushed back once with this injury, with negative consequences.

"I have to be dead sure that I am doing the right thing because Wayne has not been doing himself justice. I think in a week he will be fine," he added.

"Obviously we don't play in a week, so it is up to Fabio Capello whether he wants him to.

"The Montenegro match is another 10 days away and by that time I would expect Wayne to be 100 per cent."
