Sevilla Chairman Jose Maria Del Nido: Elimination From Europe At This Stage Would Be Difficult

Sevilla president Jose Maria del Nido believes that given the club’s recent history in the Europa League, it would be difficult to watch them eliminated at an early stage of the competition.

Los Nervionenses opened their campaign with a surprise 1-0 home defeat to Paris Saint-Germain, but clinched a superb win in Germany versus Borussia Dortmund on Thursday night that kept their chances of qualifying from the group alive.

The result gave new coach Gregorio Manzano the ideal start to his reign, and Del Nido admitted that the club are honoured to be representing Spain on the European stage.

He commented to journalists: “We are proud to be in Europe, and we are glad to still be competing in European competition, for the seventh consecutive season. It would not be understandable to see Sevilla outside Europe, but it would also be a complete failure to not be in any continental competition at this stage. However, we have had many successes in recent years.”

Del Nido also added that he plans to do the necessary to ensure the team is strengthened to a level sufficient to compete both domestically and in Europe, adding: “The reality is that we want the team to be competitive again, and we are all anxious to see new additions of a desired level. That will come sure enough."
