Schalke coach Felix Magath is extremely disappointed with his side's 2-1 defeat in Nuernberg. He believes the side's performance dropped off considerably after the midweek Champions League win over Benfica and also cited the upcoming international fixtures as a possible distraction.
"I am naturally completely displeased. What the team showed today was incomparable with the Champions League game. We put a lot into that game and today it came back to hurt us. The second half was decided through the red card," Magath told Sky after the final whistle.
"However, we did not take our opportunities and additionally we made inexplicable and catastrophic errors. Probably a few of my players were already thinking about their national teams."
Schalke remain second last after today's defeat and could go bottom should Stuttgart take any points from their home game to Frankurt tomorrow. Die Koenigsblauen host Stuttgart in a fortnight's time.
