Sven Goran Eriksson is to be appointed Leicester City manager over the weekend, reports Sky Sports News.
The Swede will take over from Paulo Sousa, who was dismissed on Friday by Leicester chairman Milan Mandaric.
It is a remarkable move from the Foxes, and Eriksson will become their 14th manager since 2004 when he takes up his duties, expected to be on Monday.
Eriksson had been expected to take over at Saudi Arabian side Al Hilal, but has now turned that down in favour of filling the vacancy at the Walkers Stadium.
His most recent job was leading Ivory Coast in the 2010 World Cup, but he stepped down after their elimination from the tournament in the group stages.
It will be Eriksson's third job in club football in England, having previously been manager of Manchester City and held the post of director of football at Notts County.
He will have a challenge on his hands at Leicester, as the club currently sit bottom of the Championship table with just one win in their opening nine games. They have conceded 22 goals already this season.
The club have come in for criticism following Sousa's dismissal, which is the sixth change since Mandaric took over the east Midlands club.
Outgoing manager Sousa said on Friday: "I am very disappointed that I had only been given nine league games to achieve success with a team I inherited. The recent history of the club has seen many such changes of managers and, in my opinion, clubs need stability to build success."
Eriksson is expected to be at the Walkers Stadium today as the Foxes host Scunthorpe United desperate to add to their meagre haul of five points. The Iron, in 16th place in the Championship, are six points better off.
