Cagliari coach Massimiliano Allegri has anointed Brazilian striker Nene after the 26-year-old set the Rossoblu on their way to a famous 2-0 victory over Juventus in Serie A on Sunday.
Nenè unleashed a scorcher from 25 yards that left Gianlugi Buffon with no chance before Alessandro Matri added a late second to move Cagliari up to seventh in the table.
“President [Massimo] Cellino unearthed him at Nacional da Madeira,” Allegri explained to La Gazzetta dello Sport.
“He is a penalty box marksman with a fierce shot. He reminds me of [Gabriel] Batistuta in his prime. If he continues working hard, he can go on to become one of the revelations in Serie A.”
But Cagliari also boast a number of other stars in the making, namely Italy internationals Federico Marchetti and Davide Biondini.
“Marchetti comes right behind Buffon,” Allegri said of the shot-stopper.
“He is talented and has a great character. As for Biondini, he is the [Marco] Tardelli of the new millennium. He is a runner and has knack for scoring goals.”
