Arsenal have today confirmed that Kieran Gibbs is set for a three-month spell on the sidelines after suffering a broken metatarsal against Standard Liege this week.
Sky Sports News report that Gunners manager Arsene Wenger has revealed that Gibbs has had an operation this morning and will now start his recovery.
Gibbs' specific problem has been described as "a very rare injury".
With Gael Clichy also injured, it is anticipated that Armand Trarore will slot in at left-back for a game which Wenger regards as the biggest test of his team's season so far.
"Sometimes a team has to show that they're ready to play a game like this. For this Arsenal team this moment has come," the Frenchman said, according to Sky Sports.
"We should not be considered a young team any more. We have strength, and we have to show that on Sunday."
Wenger also confirmed that defender William Gallas is only '50-50' for Sunday's game with Chelsea. The French international picked up an eye injury against Liege.
