Fiorentina left-back Juan Manuel Vargas is finally living up to his billing this season after a disappointing maiden year at the Stadio Franchi.
His recent performances have reportedly alerted a number of top European teams, namely Real Madrid and Chelsea, but the 26-year-old seems unfazed and has reiterated his commitment to the Gigliati colours.
“I don’t know anything about these rumours,” he told La Gazzetta dello Sport.
“I am really settled here and the passion of the fans is indescribably contagious. It almost seems to be part of a family. Fiorentina are my great team and I am only focused on improving here.”
Vargas has been nicknamed the ‘Bionic Man’ because of his tireless runs up and down the left flank that often result in delightful assists for Alberto Gilardino.
“I love running,” he smiled. “When I was child, I used to run in the streets, usually to get away from my mother who wanted to bring me back home or scold me.
“As for Gilardino, he has indeed promised me a big end-of-season present if he scores plenty of goals thanks to me,” he concluded.
