Joachim Loew Announces Germany Squad For Euro 2012 Qualifiers - Mainz Starlets Omitted

Joachim Loew today announced his squad for Germany's upcoming Euro 2012 qualifiers against Turkey and Kazakhstan. Most notably, Mainz starlets Andre Schuerrle and Lewis Holtby have been left out of the 22-man squad, which contains 17 members of Loew's World Cup team. The coach had already proposed to call up the pair, as well as others such as Mario Goetze and Mats Hummels, ahead of a November friendly against Sweden.

Also noteworthy is the inclusion of Borussia Dortmund star Kevin Grosskreutz, who is no longer eligible to play at the U-21 level. The 22-year-old earns his first call-up since May, when he was first capped at the senior level in a friendly against Malta.

Michael Ballack and Stefan Kiessling remain injured, and will miss at least the upcoming qualifiers, if not the November friendlies as well. In Ballack's stead, Philipp Lahm will retain his captaincy.
