Hoffenheim Coach Ralf Rangnick Rues Sloppy Defending Following Loss To Mainz

Hoffenheim coach Ralf Rangnick tried to see the positives following his side's 4-2 defeat to Mainz, citing the close nature of the game until the home side's fourth and fatal strike. He remarked that his criticisms may prove to be character-building in the long-term.

"Although it sounds strange as we lost 4-2, we played well for long periods of the game. Until the penalty, which made it 4-2, the game was open," Rangnick told Sky.

"We looked horrible when we conceded the goals. This reproach could be the making of the team."

Although Hoffenheim are still in fifth position with eleven points from seven games, they have only amassed two points in their last four encounters. They host Borussia Moenchengladbach after the international break.
