Reigning Portuguese champions Benfica have received some disturbing news from the treatment table in the aftermath of their 2-0 Champions League loss against German side Schalke last Wednesday.
Head coach Jorge Jesus will have to make do without the services of highly rated attacker Oscar Cardozo for a while after the Paraguay international sustained a knee injury at the Veltins Arena.
The 27-year-old Cardozo underwent further examination at the weekend and a scan revealed knee ligament damage. The Benfica star is expected to be unavailable for around three weeks as a result, according to a report on the club's official website.
Cardozo played a major role in his side's Portuguese title last term by netting 26 league goals throughout the season.
The attacker already missed last weekend's 1-0 win against Sporting Braga due to the knee injury and could miss the Lisbon side's upcoming Champions League tie against Lyon as well.
