William Gallas Likely To Miss Chelsea Clash - Arsenal Manager Arsene Wenger

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has admitted that William Gallas could miss the blockbuster encounter against Chelsea at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday.

The Frenchman sustained an injury during the Champions League game against Standard Liege, when a clash of heads with Andrey Arshavin saw the defender hobble off to be replaced at half-time.

And now Wenger has conceded that he remains concerned about the fitness of the 32-year-old.

"There is a big question mark about him [Gallas] at the moment," Wenger is quoted by Sporting Life as saying.

"I cannot say that William Gallas will play, unfortunately. The ankle should be alright but the eye is still very, very, very swollen.

"He wears contact lenses and at the moment he would not get them in.

"We hope on Sunday it will be better."

The manager explained that Arshavin had overcome the effects of the collision and will be available for the game against Carlo Ancelotti's charges.

"Arshavin was shocked but he is OK," he added.

Arsenal are currently eight points behind Chelsea, albeit with a game in hand.
