Brisbane Roar Need To Build Momentum Against Wellington Phoenix - Ange

Brisbane Roar coach Ange Postecoglou believes his side can generate some momentum with a win over the Wellington Phoenix at Suncorp Stadium on Sunday.

Three of the next four matches will be at home for the Roar and their manager believes the opportunity to turn the season around is there for his side if they can grab it.

Sunday’s match also starts a run of three matches against top-six rivals, a stretch of games which could go a long way to determining the outcome of the Roar’s season.

However, Postecoglou wasn’t getting too far ahead of himself, focussing solely on the Phoenix threat.

“This is a really big one,” Postecoglou said. “We can obviously make up a lot of ground on a team above us and a team we’re chasing in the six.

“It is almost a six-pointer, not only can you get three points, but you can deny a team above you three points.

“The game is at home for us and we have that as an advantage if we take it.

“They are all going to be big games (for the remainder of the season) but you can get some momentum if you gain some ground on the teams above you.”

Despite some already questioning the Roar’s ability to challenge at the business end of the season, Postecoglou said Brisbane’s position should be kept in perspective.

“You look at Wellington and by all accounts they’ve had a pretty good year and they’re only a couple of points ahead of us,” he said. “It’s just that sort of league.

“From my perspective that’s good because it makes us focussed on every week and the games.

“It means that we don’t just say the season’s a write off, so there’s still plenty to play for.”

Midfield pair Massimo Murdocca and Michael Zullo could be in line to return to the match day squad this weekend, provided they showed solid form through Saturday’s final training session.

Defender Ivan Franjic won’t be among those in contention for a spot in the squad, succumbing to a hamstring complaint he’s battled through over the past two weeks.
