Avram Grant believes that his team will beat the drop, despite the Hammers' currently propping up the Premier League table.
West Ham United recorded their first win of the season against Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday, but that victory was their first after a start which has been less than convincing for the Israeli.
But Grant, who was unable to save Portsmouth from relegation last term, believes there is still a lot of time to get West Ham's season back on track.
“We are not a team to be on the bottom of the league," Grant told Sky Sports.
“We are not heading for relegation. We play football to be in a better place and we will do it."
If West Ham are to stay up then they must score goals, which has been a problem for the team in recent seasons. But Grant has backed new signing Victor Obinna to continue his fine form whilst also praising Frederic Piquionne after he received criticism for his poor start to the season.
“Obinna can play in many positions. He can play left or right and he can play better also,” said Grant.
“He [Obinna] sometimes does things on his own but I do think he is a team player as you saw with his two assists in the last two games."
Of Piquionne, Grant said: “Last year when I was at Portsmouth, he scored some important goals for us,"
"He [Piquionne] is working hard. He is a team player and you saw the difference in his movement [against Fulham]."
Although West Ham have gained four points from their last two games, they still find themselves bottom of the table and will need more goals from their strike force to remain safe in the Premier League for another season.
