Unsettled Shay Given To Be Offered New Manchester City Contract - Report

Manchester City are set to offer Shay Given an improved contract in January, despite Roberto Mancini's willingness to sell the goalkeeper.

The Republic of Ireland international has been told he can leave the club by the Italian after falling behind England shot-stopper Joe Hart in the pecking order.

However, The News of the World reports that Brian Marwood, the club's football administrator, is attempting to keep Given at the club to avoid a similar scenario to that which saw Marton Fulop having to be brought into the club on loan during a crucial period.

It is thought Given will be offered improved terms on his current deal, which is worth £90,000-a-week and still has two years to run.

The former Newcastle 'keeper has previously been linked with both Arsenal and Celtic, and has declared himself eager to return to regular first team action.
