River Plate Coach Angel Cappa Apologises For 'Shameful' Behaviour Against Banfield

River Plate coach Angel Cappa apologised last night to the 'Millonario' faithful for his incredible outburst in Sunday's 2-2 draw with Banfield, where the tecnico had to be restrained from Sergio Pezzotta after being sent off for protesting a penalty.

Writing on his blog in the early hours of Monday morning, 'Angelito' explained to his readers why he had acted the way he did when Carlos Arano conceded a first half penalty, but not before offering a humble apology.

"I was sent off, justly. That was all and therefore I apologise to the fans of River, with the promise that something similar will not happen again (I hope I can live up to it)," wrote the ex-Hurcan trainer. Cappa watched from the stands as Juan Pablo Carrizo saved the following penalty, before goals from Ariel Ortega and Adalberto Roman salvaged a point for his team.

The coach also justified his actions somewhat, by explaining how he saw the play that led to the polemic penalty kick and his expulsion.

"Arano was clearly fouled beforehand, I looked at the referee in that moment and he was about to give it; the play however carried on very quickly and then he gives the penalty, which was a penalty - forgetting the previous infraction," he clarified.

"My reaction, from all points of view exaggerated and disproportionate, has its origin in the injustice that we all could see."
