Real Zaragoza Coach Jose Aurelio Gay Praises 'Herculean' Effort Of Team In Sporting Gijon Match

Real Zaragoza coach Jose Aurelio Gay has praised the efforts of his players to turn around a 2-0 deficit and earn a point against Sporting Gijon on Saturday evening.

The Romareda outfit looked to be heading for yet another loss thanks to a Ivan Obradovic own goal and a Diego Castro strike from the visitors, but managed to hit back thanks to a double from Florent Sinima-Pongolle in the second half, who rescued a point for his team despite the fact that they had been reduced to 10 men.

However, the Blanquillos remain rooted to the foot of the Primera Division table, and coach Gay remarked on the performance of his players in the post-match press conference, saying: “The team has produced a Herculean effort to even the score and when they countered, our goalkeeper Toni Doblas played really well.

“This team has a great ability to overcome adversity, and we hope that this can translate into our league form. Their two goals however have came from a failure to care and to make mistakes, but sometimes these things happen when you are bottom of the league.”

Zaragoza face a trip to play Athletic Bilbao on October 17 following the international break.
