Milan chief executive officer Adriano Galliani could barely contain his enthusiasm last night after seeing an ultra-offensive Diavoli side secure three vital points with a late 2-0 win over Catania at the Massimino.
Brazilian boss Leonardo threw caution to the wind in the finals stages as Filippo Inzaghi and Klaas-Jan Huntelaar, who bagged the decisive brace, came off the bench to partner Alexandre Pato and Ronaldinho up front, with Dutch midfielder Clarence Seedorf in support.
“Well, we went beyond all bounds of decency and finished the match with four real strikers on the pitch,” Galliani beamed on Sky Sport Italia.
“Now we just need to switch to a 4-1-5 for the future!”
Huntelaar netted his first goals for the club after a dismal start to his life in Rossonero that prompted speculation the Dutchman would have been offloaded in January.
“When I went into the dressing room after the match, I went up to Huntelaar and he hugged me,” revealed Galliani.
“He knows I have always supported him and he was happy because I had been accused of throwing away €11 million.”
Milan signed Huntelaar from Real Madrid over the summer and his delightful lob that sealed the result in Sicily reminded Galliani of Rossoneri legend Marco van Basten.
“Yes, that impressed me and it was a goal a la van Basten,” he concluded.
