Pepe Set To Leave Real Madrid In 2012

Pepe’s long-term future at Real Madrid is growing increasingly cloudy, with AS reporting that the Portuguese international defender is not satisfied with the terms being offered to him by los Blancos.

It is reported that the 27-year-old centre-back desires a contract of €5 million-per-year, which would draw him in line with players such as Karim Benzema. Los Merengues, however, are only prepared to offer him £3.5m each season until 2015.

Though Pepe is said to be happy at the Bernabeu, he is not ready to drop his wage demands significantly because he feels he still has a good proportion of his career remaining and that he will be paid what he feels he is worth elsewhere.

Earning €1.8m-per-annum, the Brazilian-born player is one of the lowest paid figures in the club’s ranks, despite their willingness to shell out €30m on him in terms of a transfer fee.

As a result, the defender could be prepared to wind down his contract in the Spanish capital and then seek a new club when he is no long shackled.
