Ex-Togo goalkeeper Kodjovi Obilale, who was among the nine injured victims in the Togo national football team bus attack last January in Cabinda, Angola, has confirmed receiving €38,000 from the government to help settle his hospital bills.
From his base in Lorient, France last Saturday, the 25-year-old former GSI Pontivy ‘keeper told Sport FM - a Lome-based radio - that he was happy with the government’s gesture.
“I'm a bit relieved. I have good news I want to share with everyone,” Obilale had said. “The government of Togo has provided me with the sum of 25 million CFA (€38,000) for my hospital expenses.”
According to him, the money will be used to pay his hospital bills that have accrued for four months.
Last week, FIFA President Sepp Blatter announced a $25,000 grant to the partially disabled sportsman, stressing that the world football body was not responsible for what had happened in Angola, but was withdrawing the amount from its humanitarian coffers.
