As Lazio ousted Brescia 1-0 at the Stadio Olimpico this afternoon to take sole command at the top of the standings, captain Stefano Mauri tried to keep his teammates grounded as the club continues to fly high.
“We need to keep our feet firmly on the ground,” he declared to SkySport.
“This afternoon we should have sealed the result far earlier. Fortunately Nando [Muslera] came to our rescue on a couple of occasions and we still picked up the points.
“The side deserves the triumph today as everyone sacrifices themselves for the good of the club and the efforts are paying dividends.
The midfielder was then probed as to whether he expects a call-up ahead of Italy’s forthcoming qualifiers.
“I always dream of another call-up, but what is more important is the performances for my club.”
