While the rest of the national teams on the continent focus on the forthcoming 2012 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches in early October, Gabon, who have already qualified for the event as they are co-hosting the tournament with Equatorial Guinea, are set to engage in two friendlies next week.
Gabon will play Oman on October 8 and four days later will confront Saudi Arabia in Istanbul, according to the Gabon FA's website.
“The national coach wants to accomplish a fixed objective. It’s a question of him gathering a group of about 45 solid players from which 25 will be extracted for the AFCON 2012. All playing posts need to be tripled for now,” the FA said.
Two new players are joining the set up - Etienne Bitoo of FC Dhofar in Oman and Merlin Tandjigora of Ligue 2 club Metz.
