Bayern Munich chairman Uli Hoeness has underlined the importance of their match against Borussia Dortmund on Sunday and says that they must win in order to keep themselves in the championship race.
The Bavarians have endured a poor start to the Bundesliga season and are currently ninth in the table with just eight points from six games. Last week Louis Van Gaal's side went down 2-1 to Mainz at the Allianz Arena and Hoeness has stated that Sunday's match could make or break their domestic season.
"We absolutely have to win at Dortmund so we can get back into the championship race," Hoeness is quoted as saying by AFP. "If not, it will become difficult to make up the difference before Christmas."
Bayern coach Louis van Gaal, though, is confident his side will show their mettle in Sunday's encounter.
"Of course, it's not good to have such a big gap and it would be better to have three points more than Dortmund but we're used to being in a position where we have to win."
