England Manager Fabio Capello: Manchester City Can Provide Spine To Replicate Spain Success Story

England manager Fabio Capello has backed his Manchester City stars to provide the bedrock of the side that can replicate Spain's success.

The Italian is set to name name five City players – Joe Hart, Joleon Lescott, Gareth Bary, Shaun Wright-Phillips and Adam Johnson – today in his squad for the Euro 2012 qualifier with Montenegro. The number would have stood at six if James Milner had not been suspended.

Speaking to FATV, Capello believed the formula is reminiscent of that used by World Cup 2010 champions Spain whose ranks are dominated by Barcelona.

He said: “It’s important that so many of the players are at City because they train every day together, they play together regularly in the matches.

“The national teams that won the titles, the World Cup the Euros, they had something like this.

“Spain, for example, had players from three teams, seven from Barcelona, three from Real Madrid and one from Villareal.

“When Italy won the World Cup in 2006, they had a lot of players from Juventus.”
