Diego Forlan Does Not Want To Leave Atletico Madrid - President Enrique Cerezo

Atletico Madrid president Enrique Cerezo has refuted speculation linking Diego Forlan with a switch to the English Premier League, maintaining that the Uruguayan remains happy at the Vicente Calderon.

The World Cup Golden Ball winner was linked with a move away from the capital club during the summer transfer window, but ultimately remained with los Colchoneros.

It had been reported yesterday that Forlan has stated he would be open to offers over a return to England, having spent two seasons there with Manchester United from 2002 to 2004.

However, Cerezo asserted that the 31-year-old had been taken out of context, with Marca reporting that he said: “This interpretation is not accurate. If anyone wants to sign him have any offer to make it will be valued, but that does not mean Diego wants to leave. He is happy, and has recently renewed his contract. Everything has been misinterpreted.”

Cerezo recently negotiated contract extensions with key first-teamers Jose Antonio Reyes, Tomas Ujfalusi and Paulo Assuncao, and the supremo confirmed that striker Sergio Aguero is the next signature they want to secure.

He added: “The renewal of Aguero is being studied, in line with the other major players in the team.”
