Corinthians Star Ronaldo - I Will Retire At The End Of 2011

Former Barcelona and Inter star Ronaldo revealed today that he has set a date for his retirement from football: the end of 2011, by which time he hopes to finally lift the Copa Libertadores, the trophy that has up to now eluded both him and current club Corinthians.

Speaking to Globo Esporte, the 34-year-old striker outlined the plans for the rest of his career.

"My thoughts are to play up until the end of 2011 in December and then close out my career. I am going to finish it here in Corinthians," Ronaldo revealed in this afternoon's interview.

After an impressive start to his career in Sao Paulo, Ronaldo has struggled with injuries and lack of conditioning, only now having re-entered consideration for the first team after nearly five months out of action due to injury. The player confirmed that 2010 had not unfolded for him as he had desired.

"This year has been very complicated for me, on account of the injuries. I need to regain the affection and love that the Corinthians support held for me. Playing one year more will be hard on my body, but I need to give this to the fans."

And wrapping up the interview, the legendary goalscorer remembered there was still one prize that was driving him on to keep playing.

"Yes, the Libertadores. It is a massive obsession," he confessed.

Currently second in the league, Corinthians look likely to secure qualification for South America's premier club competition - meaning Ronaldo would get one more crack at bringing home the 'Timao's' first ever Copa.
