After a late victory from Walter Smith’s Rangers, Celtic were eager to press on and maintain their 100% start to the season and go back to the top of the SPL against Hamilton Academical.
Hamilton Academical hadn’t had the best of records against Celtic and the trip to Parkhead may have been somewhat of a daunting one for Billy Reid’s men.
Hamilton obviously hadn’t read today’s script though, as it was the Accies who took an early lead as Martin Canning headed a corner back across goal and defender Mark McLaughlin is on hand to fire it into the net.
Hamilton continued their impressive start with Nigel Hasselbaink forced a fine save from Fraser Forster.
Celtic were put on the back foot once more as a Simon Mensing header again forced Forster to produce a fine save.
Celtic were soon back in the game however as Daniel Majstorovic headed the ball across the Accies goal allowing Shaun Maloney to head home and cancel out the Accies early lead.
Hamilton were unlucky to see their lead cut short after some impressive play at the start of the game. However Samaras was proving to be a handful as the head of the Celtic attack and the Accies were soon struggling to get back into the game.
The half time break then saw the two teams return to their dressing rooms with the scores level.
The second half saw Neil Lennon’s men return with the same impetus as they had in the first half and it didn’t take long for Shaun Maloney to grab his second of the game as he cracked in a free kick which flew past Tomas Cerny.
Celtic then secured the points through Gary Hooper after some tired and slack defending from the Accies allowed Hooper to smash the ball past Cerny for Celtic’s third.
The win sees Neil Lennon’s men continue their 100% record in their march for the SPL title. They now move level on points with Rangers who won earlier in the day.
