Obafemi Martins Injury Blow For Wolfsburg

Reigning Bundesliga champions Wolfsburg will have to make do without Nigerian forward Obafemi Martins until the new year after the attacker picked up an injury.

Martins is being plagued by a shin problem and needs to undergo surgery in order to fully recover. He will have an operation on his left shin this week, ruling him out for about two months.

"He is suffering a lot from the injury and the pain has become strong," explained Wolfsburg coach Armin Veh to reporters. "There is no way around an operation now."

Martins was originally scheduled to go under the knife at the end of the first half of the Bundesliga season on 20 December, but that has now been brought forward since the player is currently unable to even train.

He should be fit enough to return to action for the start of the second half of the season in mid-January.
