Malawi's Josephy Kamwendo Looking Forward To African Cup Of Nations

The Malawian international will be part of his country’s national team, the Flames, when they compete in next year’s AFCON in Angola.

Speaking to KickOff.com, Kamwendo says that it took almost 25 years for the country to qualify for their second AFCON.

“We worked very hard for this and I am happy that people can finally see that Malawi has talent and we will show them that we are good in football," he said.

"It is a dream come true, not just for me but all Malawians, players as well as supporters and the country at large.”

Kamwendo added that he just wants to maintain his form at club level so that he can be in good shape when going to Angola in January.

“Now that I am playing, I will just continue to work hard and improve on my match fitness. All seems to be going well and I just hope I will be fit enough in January,” he said.

Meanwhile, coach Kinnah Phiri has dropped Black Leopards midfielder Fischer Kondowe from the team who will be travelling to Angola due to ill-discipline.

The continental show-piece starts on January 10 and ends on January 30. Malawi are in Group A with Angola, Algeria and Mali.
