Bundesliga outfit Hamburger SV have received some disturbing news from the treatment table in the aftermath of their 1-1 league draw against Mainz last Saturday.
Dutch international Eljero Elia sustained an ankle injury during the opening minutes of the game and was forced to leave the pitch after only 16 minutes of play following a reckless challenge from Nikolce Noveski.
The 22-year-old visited the hospital on Sunday to clarify the seriousness of the injury and was diagnosed with a severely bruised ankle. Even though Elia will be sidelined for about three weeks, HSV will be relieved that their star attacker did not tear his ankle ligaments, as initially feared.
"We hope that Eljero is a quick healer and that he is available again as soon as possible," said Hamburg coach Bruno Labbadia in a reaction.
The Rothosen are being plagued by injury this season and have not won for five games now. They have slipped below Bayern Munich into fifth place in the table.
