Fernando Redondo Hopes Real Madrid Can Dispose Of ‘Incredible’ Barcelona

Former Real Madrid star Fernando Redondo has revealed that he will be supporting his old side during their upcoming clash with Barcelona, but conceded that he has also been enjoying the Blaugrana's attractive brand of football under Pep Guardiola.

"While I am a Real Madrid fan, you have to recognise that Barcelona's football is incredible and it delighted us all last season," he explained to Buenos Aires-based radio station ESPN Radio.

"Without a doubt, I want Real Madrid to win, but when a team like Barcelona achieves results with their brilliant play, you can't feel bad, no matter how much of a Madrid fan you are."

Redondo also played down comparisons between Barcelona's Lionel Messi and Diego Maradona. While he labelled Messi as the best player currently in world football, he believes that the two players are incomparable.

"[Messi] is the great hope of Argentine football, but it's not right that he is compared with Diego Maradona because he was unique.

"Messi is a remarkable player and the best in the world today, but this comparison does not make sense."

Redondo played for los Merengues from 1994-2000, racking up 165 league appearances for the club and scoring four goals from his defensive midfield position.
