Everton Boss David Moyes: Defensive Errors Cost Us Against Liverpool

Everton manager David Moyes has admitted that defensive errors cost his side the Merseyside derby, as Liverpool ran out 2-0 winners at Goodison Park.

A speculative shot from Javier Mascherano was deflected off Joseph Yobo to beat Tim Howard, while Yobo was later responsible for a defensive error that allowed Dirk Kuyt to poach the decisive second goal.

Moyes insisted that his team's rearguard was not up to the mark, but believed that the other players did their bit to warrant a better result.

"In big games, you can't [make mistakes]," the Scot said, according to the Liverpool Echo.

"Well in any game, but in big games especially, that's where you are hoping you don't get situations where there's mistakes.

"It's hard enough to score a goal without doing anything which makes it harder.

"But overall I've got to say I thought the players did a good job.

"The players worked extremely hard and deserved more than they got in the end.

"I thought the game was tight, with us in the main trying to set the tone and the pace of the game as much as we could to make it difficult for them.

"So it's disappointing that you don't get anything for it."
