Europe's toughest defence in 2015

It may not surprise anyone to learn that the toughest defence in 2015 emanates from Ligue 1, but amazingly it is not PSG that take the honour of conceding the fewest goals per game in Europe's top five leagues.

Nor is it Monaco, despite a stubborn defence that had been especially solid at home. Rather, it is newly promoted Angers who have boasted the stingiest back-line out of any team across Germany, Italy, Spain, England and France.

Stephane Moulin's plucky side have kept 11 clean sheets this season since coming up from Ligue 2, and have conceded a mere 11 goals in 19 games. That gives them a goals conceded per game rate marginally better than second-placed Atletico Madrid!

Premier League leaders Arsenal come in at sixth place, with their frugal back-line the bedrock of their title challenge, while Louis van Gaal has something to smile about as Manchester United sneak into the top 10.
