Wolves manager Mick McCarthy was left disappointed by midfielder Karl Henry being sent off in his side’s defeat to Wigan Athletic.
The former Republic of Ireland coach was asked by Sky Sports about his opinion about the sending off after the final whistle, saying his captain was wrong to lunge in.
“It’s a bad decision [from the player] and it’s just sad for Karl because he’s not that way inclined and it’s a reckless challenge," he said.
"With everything that’s been said recently there was no chance that he was staying on the pitch.”
McCarthy was then questioned on the perception that his side are a dirty team, to which he claimed: “It doesn’t help, it’s not my way, and I’ve not condoned any tackle that’s been made.
"I stood last week and saw one of my players get a broken leg from what wasn’t a nice tackle and we’ve lost a player for the rest of the season.”
He continued: “I feel that some of the bookings that we’ve had have been soft, even today. And I see other players that don’t get booked.
"There is no problem with discipline at the place; in fact if you spoke to anyone that knows us they would say they’re the best bunch of lads about. They’ve just made some bad decisions.”
On his attempts to get his side to play the style of football he wanted, McCarthy said: “We came here to take Wigan on at a game of football and that’s what we were doing. We started the game well actually.
“I do have a bit of an argument about the free kick that led to the goal because I thought that N’Zogbia had fouled Dave Edwards and it was a soft free kick.”
