Unai Emery Warns Valencia Players To Sharpen Their Striking Instincts

Valencia coach Unai Emery accepts that his team will need to improve their attacking prowess when they face Athletic Bilbao at the Mestalla on Saturday evening.

Joaquin Caparros take his side to face the league leaders, who struggled in front of goal in the 1-0 Champions League defeat to Manchester United in midweek, missing numerous opportunities.

Speaking to journalists in anticipation of the match, Emery stated that he is aware of the quality of the opposition, and has warned his players that they will have to refine their finishing in and around the area in order to extend their excellent domestic run.

He said of the match: “We must improve the final stage of our attack. The team creates these situations well, but we have to get more out of the chances we are creating. We have to accompany the presence of the ball in the area with players.

“We must also improve our intensity and great team display by making ourselves available in the penalty area. There are small but important aspects that will allow us to meet our objectives. The important thing is to keep our style and philosophy.”

Emery also commented on the recent displays of Alejandro Dominguez, stating that he is looking for more from the Argentine.

“Chori knows that he has to improve his performance, but his biggest critic is himself and he knows that more is required, so all we can do is help and support him to be more comfortable.”
