Barcelona have confirmed that midfield maestro Xavi has been excluded from the squad to face Mallorca at the Camp Nou on Sunday evening.
The playmaker was excluded from Spain coach Vicente del Bosque’s international squad for the matches against Scotland and Lithuania as a result of tendonitis, but the Blaugrana initially refused to rule out his participation in the league match against los Barralets.
Had the 30-year-old trained today as normal with the rest of his colleagues, it was thought that Pep Guardiola would have considered utilising him and then allowing him to rest the injury during the international break.
However, he took no part in the session today and is now expected to be out until at least the match versus Valencia on October 17 as he looks to shake off the condition that has caused him some discomfort all season.
Another member of the Barcelona team carrying an injury, Adriano, trained separately from the rest of his colleagues as he recuperates from a thigh muscle injury.
